In separate incidents last weekend a 7 year old boy suffered 2 broken bones in his right arm and a 7 month old girl suffered a broken left arm. Both children are recovering. Charges will be filed.
On Saturday, September 7, 2014, at about 10:30 PM, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to investigate a report of child abuse that occurred in Eagle Mountain. The incident actually occurred sometime Friday evening, September 5. When it became apparent the boy was in pain he was taken to American Fork Hospital. During the course of the investigation Detectives learned that a 7 year old boy sustained breaks to both bones in his lower left arm. After interviewing the victim and other witnesses they made contact with Christopher Patrick Nieto, age 28, of Eagle Mountain. Nieto is the live-in boyfriend of the victim's mother. Investigators believe Nieto caused the injury to the 7 year old victim. Nieto was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail on one 2nd degree felony charge of domestic violence-child abuse with serious bodily injury. Bail has been set for Nieto at $1,500.00 cash only.
A few hours later, at about 3:45 AM Sunday, in an unrelated case, Deputies were dispatched to investigate a report of a 7 month old girl who was at Riverton Hospital with a broken lower right arm. This injury was also reported to have happened in Eagle Mountain. Detectives interviewed witnesses and their findings led them to determine the girl suffered the broken arms at the hands of her 17 year old father. Detectives booked the father into Slate Canyon Youth Detention Center on one charge of 2nd degree felony child abuse.
Both the 7 year old boy and 7 month old girl were treated and are expected to recover.
