54 Year Old Farmington Resident Dies in Paragliding Accident in Utah County

On 02/23/14, at approximately 17:45 hours, the Utah Valley Dispatch Center received a phone call from a male caller stating that he had just witnessed his friend crash in a paraglider in Utah County, South of Fairfield.

The victim, 54 year old Ronald Allen Carter of Farmington, Utah, was practicing some advanced maneuvers in his paraglider when it plumetted to the ground. Tragically, Mr. Carter was killed upon impact.

The incident occurred on Allens Ranch Road, approximately 5.3 miles South of SR-73 and was witnessed by three friends who had accompanied him to the site. Mr. Carter was flying a non-motorized paraglider and was reportedly an experienced glider.

Utah County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the incident but do not believe it to be suspicious in nature. At this time, the contributing factors which caused the accident are not known. Our thoughts are with the Carter family as they deal with the loss of their family member.
