A hiker dies as a result of a tragic fall above Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon.
On 11/13/13, at 5:35 P.M., the Utah Valley Dispatch Center received a 911 cell phone call from an individual who reported that her hiking companion had fallen just above Bridal Veil Falls.
The caller, Emilee Anderson, reported that her friend, Kaitlin Keeney (age 20) had fallen and appeared to have sustained a severe head injury.
Kaitlin, a Salt Lake County resident, and Emilee had been coming down from a hike above Bridal Veil Falls when Kaitlin tragically slipped and fell approximately 40 feet.
Utah County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Personnel and North Fork Fire / Paramedics responded to assist. Unfortunately, Kaitlin died prior to medical personnel reaching her location.
Although detectives were notified of the incident, as per Sheriff's Office policy, no suspicious activity is suspected.
Our thoughts are with the Keeney family as they deal with the tragic loss of their daughter at this time. Additionally, we apologize for the incorrect initial reporting of Kaitlin as a male.
